The streets teach lessons to all that walk them one cannot spend more than ten minutes in Regensburg without encountering personal reflection. Emmeram did? Regensburg is also full of small interesting facts for instance, Oscar Schindler lived in Regensburg after World War II. For 800 years (until 1950) it was the only bridge in Regensburg, and at the time it was the only bridge that crossed the Danube. Around the same time period, the great Stone Bridge of Regensburg was built. The Dohm took 600 years to build, and is still the landmark of downtown Regensburg. Peter was built, an awe-inspiring Cathedral. He considered Regensburg the gateway to Eastern Europe. Boniface declared that Regensburg would be the site of the bishops seat around 739 A.D. ![]() The next thousands years were full of religious history St. The fort spanned an area of 450 meters by 550 meters old walls of the fort still stand in these areas. Originally, Regensburg was a massive fort for the Romans to help fend off the German “barbarians”. It is a place rich and abundant with history dating all the way back to the Romans. The city of Regensburg grabs a hold of and forces one to examine their view of history. Not many places do that like Regensburg though. Maybe London or Washington D.C., places where governments are old and the culture reflects history. Maybe New York City, where languages abound, people are bustling, and the world meets for business.
